A car traveling onto Davis Islands just after Noon today, hit a guard rail and flipped onto the driver side of the car. The accident caused a backup getting onto the islands and TGH traffic was routed onto the island along Columbia Drive. Read More →

4th of July Will Not Effect Trash Pickup

Due to the change in pick up schedules just after Memorial Day, the trash pickup on the islands will not be effected the week of the 4th. The new household trash day on the island are Tuesdays, with household trash, recycle and yard waste on Fridays. The city no longer slides the schedule, as in years past. Carly, daughter of Kim and David Griffin, competed with her team from Premier Gymnastics recently in the 2009 Florida USA Gymnastic meet in Lakeland. This is where all level 5 gymnasts in Florida come to show their stuff. Its also where the practice and preparation pays off. Carly finished second in the state with her score, including a 9.4 out of 10 score on the beam. Her team also took first place honors in the medium size team division. Chez Bryce to Close

Another Davis Islands business will shut its doors this weekend, in what is becoming a common scene in the Davis Islands Village. Bryce Whittlesey, owner and chef of Chez Bryce sent out an email blast this weekend, alerting supporters he will be closing the doors. Note the reference to the dates are June, but actually are July closing dates. TGH Buys South Tampa Property

The Tampa Business Journal is reporting Tampa General Hospital is buying South Tampa property and planning to move some of it’s office staff from Davis Islands. The article says TGH paid $3.8 million for two parcels at 606 West Kennedy Boulevard. Hospital spokesman John Dunn says the plans are to move some of it’s non-surgical support staff.
